Welcome! What's in this issue? |
|
Hi folks.
This
is the first of our quarterly eNewsletters. We made this change to
bring you the best of both worlds -- regular insight into City Hall and
a rundown of what's happening in San Bruno. I've asked my team to
continue exploring ways to keep communication open as we work to
deliver quality service and new, exciting projects.
It's been a busy couple of months. We've had: |
|
|
- the ribbon cutting for Centennial Plaza
- a groundbreaking ceremony for Florida Park
- significant progress on the plans for Tanforan's redevelopment
- grant funding improvements to our City's fleet of maintenance vehicles
Opportunities
to guide the future of Tanforan are coming up next month, and folks
that are interested should apply to serve on a commission to give back
to San Bruno.
That being said, I hope that the upcoming holiday
season is a time of celebration and coming together with your friends
and family. Please consider attending some of our upcoming events,
getting involved in your local government, and more! As always, thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm, and we hope to see you in the community. |

WINTER IS COMING - GET PREPARED |
|
|
As
we enter the colder months, staying safe and prepared for winter
weather is essential. Here are some key reminders to help you and your
family stay safe this season: Carbon Monoxide SafetyCarbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly. Protect your household by following these safety tips: - Install CO Alarms:
Ensure your home has working carbon monoxide detectors on every level,
especially near sleeping areas. Test alarms regularly and replace
batteries as needed. Smoke alarms and CO detectors are required in all
California homes.
- Never Use Outdoor Equipment Indoors: Avoid using BBQs, portable generators, or other fuel-powered tools inside or in enclosed spaces like garages.
- Inspect Appliances: Have heating systems, water heaters, and gas appliances checked annually by a qualified technician.
For more information, visit PG&E’s Gas Safety Page. Storm PreparednessWith winter storms on the horizon, ensure you’re ready for heavy rain and high winds: |

| Rain Barrel Distribution Program In addition to protecting your property against potential flooding, consider using the rain to your advantage!
The C/CAG Flows To Bay program is excited to announce the return of its rain barrel distribution program,
this year in partnership with the Town of Hillsborough and the City of
San Carlos. The program offers discounted rain barrels through a
pre-order e-commerce website in partnership with Rain Water Solutions,
which supplies 100% recycled plastic USA-made rain barrels. Residents
anywhere in San Mateo County can pre-order up to two barrels which they
can pick up in-person at one of two planned distribution events in the
Town of Hillsborough on December 7 and the City of San Carlos on December 14.
Qualifying
residents may be eligible for a full rebate for the cost of the
discounted $80 barrels under the rain barrel rebate program
administered in partnership between the Bay Area Water Supply &
Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) and C/CAG. Residents can view their
eligibility for rebates here. Discounted Rain Barrels will be available for residents on Flows to Bay’s website until November 30 at the latest or while supplies last at https://www.flowstobay.org/bulk-rain-barrel-program/.

|
Besides
helping your dog behave appropriately in social settings and learn new
skills, training provides essential mental stimulation and enriches
your dog's daily life. Behavior training helps dogs and their owners
thrive both at home and in the community, and it keeps dogs safer by
teaching them to listen to commands and avoid dangerous
situations. The

We
are excited to announce the City of San Bruno is officially in receipt
of Alexandria Real Estate Equities’ Tanforan Project Application. The
formal application submittal for the redevelopment of the 44-acre site,
currently known as The Shops at Tanforan, kickstarts several important
opportunities for the broader San Bruno community to meaningfully
participate in the ongoing development process. The full file is
available for your review here: sanbruno.ca.gov/DocumentCenter/View/6348/TanforanSubmittal1. As
a continuation of the Tanforan For San Bruno community engagement
process that launched in the fall of 2022, these City-led opportunities
for public participation in the development process ensure the proposed
project continues to evolve to meet the needs of current and future
generations. |
|
The
San Bruno City Council and Planning Commission jointly hosted a
submittal Study Session on Tuesday, November 19 at the Recreation
and Aquatic Center. The Study Session provided both bodies a
chance to review the current plan and identify key areas for study as
City staff process the application. Additionally,
the Tanforan For San Bruno community engagement process will once again
reinvigorate the important public dialogue that has helped the project
evolve since the fall of 2022. This December, the City will host two
drop-in Open House events in the Tanforan Public Engagement Center.
These events provide the broader San Bruno community a unique
opportunity to learn about the Project Application, interact with the
development team, and provide feedback around two important project
elements: the retail village and spaces for community gathering. All
feedback opportunities will be offered in a digital format on www.TanforanForSanBruno.com. |
|
Mark your calendars: December 2024 Drop-In Open House Events 🙌 Hosted
at the Tanforan Public Engagement Center, located on-site at The Shops
at Tanforan’s lower level near the northeast escalators. RSVP here: www.TanforanForSanBruno.com/RSVP We
hope you can join us and help to create a vibrant future for all of San
Bruno. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact tanforan@sanbruno.ca.gov. Please check back to www.TanforanForSanBruno.com for more updates and your mailbox for your official invitation. |

The
San Bruno Library recently secured a $21,000 Lunch at the Library grant
from the California Library Association. This funding will enable the
library to acquire over 2,000 children's books in English, Spanish, and
Chinese, which will be distributed at the Second Harvest Food Bank at
Belle Air Elementary School throughout the winter and spring. This
initiative aims to bridge the literacy gap by empowering families to
build home libraries while fostering connections with the library's
services and programming. |
|
Don’t forget that the library offers bilingual story time every Tuesday at 11:00 AM, featuring book readings and songs in both English and Spanish. |
