City Council Meetings, Tuesday, 14 January, 2025 |
Recreation and Aquatics Center, City Park |
- In
a study session we'll receive a presentation on the general obligation
bond (Measure Q) which was approved by voters in the November
election.
|
- We'll
say goodbye and thank you to Police Chief Ryan Johansen and Community
Services Director Travis Karlen, who are each leaving the Bay Area for
new positions.
- Public
Hearing on an ordinance to amend the municipal code to remove
all-electric building requirements. In 2023, the Ninth Circuit Court of
Appeals overturned Berkeley’s 2019 ban on natural gas infrastructure in
new construction, making our similar language in our municipal code
unenforcible. This ordinance also adds two programs from our recently
state-approved Housing Element.
- The
mayor will propose and the council will approve appointments of city
councilmembers as representatives and alternates on San Mateo County
agencies and other regional bodies.
- A
further update on the paid parking program, including voting to approve
an amended schedule of holidays when parking is free. We’ll continue
the discussion of what areas of the program are not working and provide
direction to staff.
- We'll
vote to approve the hiring of Susan Manheimer as interim police chief.
Chief Manheimer brings over 39 years of service and has served in
leadership positions for police agencies throughout the Bay Area. The
sole responsibility for hiring of our interim (and permanent) police
chief lies with City Manager Alex McIntyre, but since Chief Manheimer
is a CalPERS retiree, state law requires a vote of council to bring her
on board in a limited, interim capacity while we conduct a thorough
nationwide search for a new police chief.

Crestmoor High School Demolition Continues |
The
building demolition, tree removal and regrading of the former Crestmoor
High School site is continuing in earnest, as those of us who live near
the site can certainly hear. The entire site including the sports
fields is now closed and fenced off, and I've included some pictures of
the demolition work below. The road through the site will remain closed
to traffic through the end of this year. I provided a detailed report
of the project to build 155 homes on the site in my December 16
newsletter, which you can view here. For any site concerns or issues, please email CrestmoorInfo@tollbrothers.com. |

SM County Update: Board of Supervisors Reorganization |
On
Tuesday, January 7 the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors held their
reorganization ceremony, which started by swearing in new board members
Lisa Gauthier representing county District 4, and Jackie Speier
representing county District 1, which covers most of San Bruno. We are
fortunate that the county district boundaries run through San Bruno
which means we have two board members representing San Bruno, with
Supervisor David Canepa representing county district 5. At Tuesday's
meeting, Supervisor Canepa was appointed Board President for 2025, and
Supervisor Noelia Corzo was appointed Board Vice President. |
