Former Congresswoman Jackie Speier Joins SamTrans Board of Directors

SamTrans is honored to welcome former U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Speier to its Board of Directors. Speier, a longtime advocate for public transportation and infrastructure investment, was sworn in at the board’s meeting today.

Speier joins the board as one of two representatives from the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. Her extensive experience in public service, including nearly 15 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, positions her as a valuable addition to the transit agency’s leadership.

“Director Speier’s commitment to public service and her deep understanding of the transportation needs in San Mateo County make her an invaluable asset to SamTrans,” said Board Chair Jeff Gee. “We look forward to benefiting from her leadership and insight as we continue to enhance mobility for our community.”

Throughout her career, Speier has been a steadfast supporter of public transit initiatives, championing projects that expand access, improve infrastructure and promote sustainability. Her work in Congress included securing funding for both SamTrans and Caltrain — and advocating for policies that enhance transit systems nationwide.

“I am excited to join the SamTrans Board and continue my lifelong mission of serving the people of San Mateo County,” said Director Speier. “Reliable, affordable and efficient public transit is essential for economic growth, environmental sustainability, and equity. I look forward to working with my fellow board members to advance these priorities.”

The SamTrans Board of Directors oversees the policies and operations of the San Mateo County Transit District, which provides bus service throughout the county and connects riders to regional transit systems.
